Curriculum

The curriculum has three main components: required courses, elective courses and projects. Students are required to complete a minimum of 26 credits by taking four required courses, three elective courses, and one project. Full Time students are provided with an option to take an extra project course to make up the total credits maximally to 31. The normal period for completing the degree is 1 year by full-time mode and 18-months by part-time mode. The majority of the courses will be conducted in weekday evening/Saturdays at HKUST.

Remarks

  • A : It is an approved reimbursement course under Continued Education Fund (CEF). Eligible applicants will be reimbursed 80% of the relevant course fees, subject to a maximum sum of HK$12,760.
  • B : The offering of elective courses is subject to availability of teaching resources and student enrollment.
  • C : BTEC 5360 is recommended for students with no or limited laboratory experience, and can attend day-time classes on weekdays.
  • D : If student takes EEMT 5100 (2 credits), he is required to take FOUR elective courses in order to fulfill the credit requirement (totally 9-credits) of electives. It may subsequently extent the degree period and involves extra per-credit fee, particularly for part time students.
  • E : Only suitable to students who can attend day-time class on weekdays
  • F : BTEC 6930 / BTEC 6940 is recommended for students with previous laboratory experience and can participate in day-time laboratory work. The number of students who can take this course may vary each year depending on the availability in the laboratory.
Methods of Instruction

The class will be delivered mainly on lecture basis while a board range of teaching methods such as discussions, seminars, case analysis, and individual/group projects may also be employed. The language of instruction is English.

Graduation Requirement

To graduate from the program, a student must complete the program with a graduation grade average (GGA) of 2.850 or above as required of all postgraduate students at the University.
